1. Progressively beat your fear of solitude
Being alone is not detrimental at all to your health. What’s more, it may contribute to your well-being if you give good use to your free time.
However, it’s fundamental to feel comfortable alone, as fear of loneliness can actually cause adverse effects on people. Even more due to all the people on social media who appear to be so happy at parties.
Exposing to solitude now and then helps you conquer the fear of being alone. You can even end up enjoy having time alone.
Along with voluntarily spending time all by yourself, you should know there are benefits of being alone. Over time, you will feel secure alone and even enjoy its advantages.
What are the benefits of being alone?

2. Do by yourself enjoyable activities
Society tends to think that only group activities are fun. After all, human beings are wired to seek to live in a tribe.
Consequently, when people don’t have a massive network of friends, they assume they have negative traits. Others even start calling them names like “nerd” or “geek.”
However, it is illogical to be judged because of this. Only by achieving happiness alone, it is that we could honestly share part of our time with others.
If you have trouble being happy alone in your free time, use your spare hours to engage in activities you find enjoyable. This way, you won’t be too afraid of a couple of hours of solitude in the future.
Some of the things you can do by yourself include:
- Go walking / up a mountain
- Visit a museum
- Sit in a cool place like the beach
- Travel by train
- Go to an amusement park
Other activities like reading or listening to music are also valid. However, you wouldn’t be 100 percent alone, as some would say you are in the company of the writer or singer.
3. Limit the time you spend on your phone
The happiest people usually spend less time on their phones than the average person. They don’t fear being alone with their thoughts and use these devices mainly to stay in contact with people they care about.
Furthermore, platforms like Instagram or Facebook sometimes worsen a person’s stress and loneliness.
However, you should keep in mind that plenty of people use social media to convey the impression that they are happy. If you are content with your life, don’t compare with others.
Not because you have time to spare using your phone, it means you should do it.
4. Study something meaningful
Learning meaningful subjects benefits you in the near and distant future. Moreover, it can even be a fun activity, even though people deem studying as something not interesting.
When you want to study something by heart, you enjoy the hours you spend reading and practicing. So studying can be fun in the short term.
Additionally, a well-nurtured mind becomes more creative in the long term. Hence, the person develops greater confidence and security in him or herself about facing solitude.
5. Don’t compare with others
A person’s social life does not define their worth. So avoid the trap of thinking someone else is better or happier just because they hang out with lots of people.
If that life makes them happy, you don’t know. Sometimes they just smile at the cameras. There are thousands of stories of fake friends who end up stealing their colleagues’ girlfriends and so on.
Even if that’s not the case, maybe it’s just the way that things work for you and your acquaintances. You can always work on being more social and learn how to enjoy being alone.
Meanwhile, be grateful for the skills you possess that others don’t.
It is natural that you fear loneliness, that you want to be more popular. However, don’t fear this fear of being alone, as we all need more or less time alone at some point in life.
If you willingly decide to spend time on your own, you should know that solitude has zero downsides. What’s more, it can boost creativity and confidence, as you already know.
Don’t stop socializing at all, though. For sure, other people will thank having you in their lives.
